Description
Technical Overview & Complex Multi-Piece Architecture
In high-output four-stroke marine diesel engines like the Zichai L250 series (including the 6L250, 8L250, and LC9250 platforms), oil film management along the wet cylinder liner (L250-01-068) is a delicate balancing act. If too much lubricating oil is left on the liner wall, it escapes into the combustion space, resulting in severe carbon coking, exhaust valve burning, and high oil consumption. If too little oil remains, the upper compression rings will scuff, score, and seize against the liner wall.
The L250-05-200 designation represents a “Complex” (or Composite) Oil Scraper Ring. It is explicitly engineered to decouple the structural requirements of wear resistance and radial tension:
- The Slotted Ring Body: Fabricated from high-tensile alloy cast iron or martensitic steel, featuring two parallel scraping lands (edges). The narrow land profile concentrates the radial force into a sharp scraping line, while the machined slots or windows between the lands allow captured oil to pass immediately through the piston drainage holes.
- The Internal Spiral Coil Expander: Made from premium heat-resistant stainless steel. It sits securely within a semi-circular groove on the back of the ring body, exerting continuous, uniform radial tension against the liner wall, completely independent of the ring body’s structural stiffness.
- Compatible Engine Type: Zichai L250, LB6250, LB8250, 6L250, 8L250, and LC9250 series four-stroke medium-speed marine diesel engines.
- Part Number / Designation: L250-05-200 (Complex Oil Ring / Oil Control Ring with Expander).
- Component Group: Piston Assembly Running Gear Spare.
- Nominal Cylinder Bore: 250 mm.
- Surface Treatment: Chromium-plated or nitrided scraping edges to ensure exceptional anti-wear life under constant boundary lubrication.
Key Features & Performance Benefits
- Uniform Radial Tension Distribution: The internal spiral coil spring guarantees a consistent 360-degree radial force against the cylinder liner. This layout allows the ring to adapt smoothly to micro-ovalities or thermal expansions of the liner wall, eliminating localized oil bleed-through.
- Highly Efficient Oil Drainage: The wide drainage slots in the body prevent hydraulic oil trapping at high engine speeds. Scraped oil is immediately directed back into the inner piston cavity and down into the crankcase oil sump.
- Minimized Lubricating Oil Consumption: By leaving an exact, microscopic oil film thickness (only a few micrometers thick) on the upstroke and shearing away all excess oil on the downstroke, it limits oil carry-over and stabilizes operating costs.
- Protection Against Ring Groove Sticking: The side faces are precision-ground and treated to resist carbon varnish buildup. This finish prevents the ring from jamming or sticking inside the lower skirt ring groove, preserving full operational flexibility.
Why Source from Heybeli Marine?
Worn or collapsed oil scraper rings cause a dramatic surge in lubricating oil consumption, rapid oil contamination, heavily carbon-fouled piston crowns, stuck compression rings, and severe exhaust manifold smoking. Heybeli Marine secures your technical fleet operations and machinery assets with:
- True OEM Geometric Precision: Sourced from world-class marine sealing component foundries, our complex oil rings maintain exact land dimensions, slot clearances, and spring tension ratings for worry-free integration.
- Global Strategic Fleet Inventory: We maintain deep stock allocations of Zichai L250 power-transmission and running gear spares across key international maritime corridors, ensuring rapid, 24-hour dispatch to your port or agent.
- Comprehensive Overhaul Ring Packs: We supply the L250-05-200 oil ring alongside matching 1st compression rings (L250-05-21), 2nd wiper rings (L250-05-022), 3rd scraper rings (L250-05-023), and complete composite piston assemblies (250-110).
- Rigorous Quality Control: Every spring-loaded oil ring is fully tested for uniform light-gap sealing, expander spring calibration, and exact dimensional compliance before approval.
Technical Maintenance Note: When overhauling the Zichai L250 ring pack and fitting the L250-05-200 complex oil ring, special attention must be paid to the internal coil expander spring. Before slipping the ring assembly over the piston skirt using a professional ring expander tool, ensure that the internal positioning wire (latch) that joins the two ends of the spiral coil spring is securely locked and positioned exactly 180 degrees opposite to the main outer ring gap. If the spring joint aligns with the ring gap, radial pressure drops to zero, and the ring will completely fail to scrape oil. Clean the drainage oil holes behind the piston skirt ring groove thoroughly to remove hard carbon deposits that could block the scraped oil path.
